Which one would you choose for the g90?

According to the NFPA, National Fire Protection Association, unplugging the power source to equipment, and unplugging outside antennas and (GROUNDING) them, will give you about 99.9999% protection against a lighting strike. Nothing is guaranteed. The EMP from a close by lightning strike can do a tremendous amount of damage to sensitive electronic equipment. Grounding does not prevent this. Perhaps a Faraday Cage might help. So, for better protection, disconnect your coaxes and ground both the center conductor and shield to your external ground rod. This will keep the difference in potential, static, drained off to ground and by doing this will prevent a lighting strike to your antenna/s. I would also recommend installing some Alpha Delta surge protectors on those coaxes outside of the home. Continue unplugging the power sources. You'll be fine.

I can appreciate the attempt at calling this non tech, but honestly, it still is. The tools alone needed to accomplish this for any average non-tech/trade person would cost easily hundreds of dollars. It's a fine build and antenna, no doubt. Just don't sugar coat this and make people think this is something anyone could do.

Passed the Extra last month! Had the General for a couple of years but was kind of a drag not being able to work stations in the lower portion of the bands, especially when they were sitting right near the edge. Nice to have full privileges!

Your explanation is very to the point and simple. Too often when we attempt to accomplish something we can make it more complicated than it truly is. Then when someone, as yourself, demonstrates what, how, and why, to do it we slap our foreheads, "oh wow, it is too easy!" Thank you, greatly I appreciate your instructional videos.

Jericho. It was a series that ran maybe two seasons on CBS several years ago, maybe around 2006 to about 2008? Something like that. Anyway, it as a FANTASTIC series about a small town called Jericho Kansas. It’s the normal small town thing where everyone knows everyone and their dog. Then the mayor’s son comes home. Nobody’s seen him in at least five years and when he shows up, everyone has questions. There’s an old romance with a beautiful girl he had a thing with in high school or shortly after. There’s unsettled bad blood between him and his father the mayor and he leaves town, with unfinished business all around. Then WW3 starts. A mushroom cloud from what used to be Denver Colorado. It’s a post apocalyptic series where people who were in fishing tournaments a few years before are now at war with each other. Imagine one small, one-horse town with a machine shop, the other with a large salt mine. They literally go to war over resources. Every episode opened with a cryptic scenario and Morse Code in the theme music. Good stuff.

There so many better choices for feed line. RG8X is almost the worst. Lmr 400 or LMR 600 are way better the RG8X on 2m and 70cm

Don't you need cell service to leave a new voicemail? I don't think that is saved on your phone, but on your carriers system which needs cell coverage to save. I might be wrong here.

Probably better to practice the pcb soldering with a wire or component going through the pcb hole. Usually the biggest issue with pcb soldering in making sure the solder flows to the other side of the board. I like the demo on hooking the wires together. I would probably have bent both wires in a partial loop and connected the loops together and then solder them together. Thanks for the video! 73

according to another youtuber the folding antenna is made of brass. But you say it’s light. Perhaps the ferrules? HOA question, can they do anything about temporary antennas you take down when you finished? Might depend on the HOA, seems they can vote in rules.

Thank you for such a great video! I am new to this hobby and still have mountains to learn, so this information is very helpful. If I had to ground to my fuse box ground, then it would have to be like yours, mighrt have been, around, over and through, etc. So I have been reading as much as I can about how to handle this. Your idea is very much in keeping with what I have read. A direct or close strike will fry everything that is plugged in, no matter the ground situation, or so I have read. The articles I have read say as you do... UNPLUG!!!. I used to live in Florida, had a direct lightning strike on an oak tree in the back yard. Bark was stripped off the tree and the neighbor behind me lost everything eclectrical that was plugged in. I was born in Fl, so everything I had was, yep, unplugged. Tks again!!!

All the 100-watt radios will do qrp, just something to keep in mind.

Scott, great build video, thanks for that. I have a 5 foot strip of land between my shed and the fence, do you think this antenna would work well in that location with radials only going out two directions and with the shed and fence so close?
